Amy Foundation formerly The Amy Biehl Foundation is a non-profit organisation that specialises in programmes to develop and empower children and youth (5-35 years of age) in challenged and vulnerable communities in the Cape Town area. The programmes we provide supplement the shortcomings of the educational system and help children and young people cope with huge inadequacies within their communities.
Our Mission is to provide a safe environment where we develop emotionally well rounded children and youth, who make positive life choices and become contributing members of society. We seek to
actively respond to the needs and interest of children and youth by providing engaging and challenging activities that promote the development of academic, social and personal skills, as well as grooming school-leavers for the world of work & entrepreneurship.
Our After School Programme reaches 2000 learners and is having a very positive effect on the children. We operate in five centres in the townships of Crossroads, Gugulethu, Khayelitsha, Phillipi, & Bonteheuwel. Programmes run Monday to Thursday. Every child attending receives a light meal and a drink. We also provide a special programme with activities during the school holidays and 4 day camps out into nature.
Our Youth Skills Development Programme is run from our Centre in Sybrand Park. It focuses on youth (aged 18-35) once they leave school and addresses the unacceptably high rate of youth unemployment.
The programme aims to develop and empower them for the world of work & entrepreneurship. Practical vocational training and experiential learning interventions in the disciplines of Hospitality, Beauty & Wellness and Craft and Design better equip them for work, further study or entrepreneurship. They are ultimately linked with our Development Partners for placements or further training in the corporate world. We provide transport and a light meal daily to ensure their optimal participation. Plans are in hand to expand to other disciplines such as Computers, finances permitting.
