PSFA Blisters for Bread in Association with Lucky Star

The Peninsula School Feeding Association (PSFA) is pleased to announce that entries are now open for our 51st popular annual fundraising event, the Blisters for Bread Charity Family Fun Walk in association with Lucky Star.

The event will start in the Green Point Precinct adjacent to the Green Point Cricket Club on Sunday 25th August 2019 and will include two routes along the Sea Point Promenade, a 10km walk that starts at 7:30am and a 5km walk that starts at 8am. Both distances will be staggered starts. The starting point is on Fritz Sonnenberg Road adjacent to the Green Point Cricket Club and next to the Cape Town Stadium. The entry fee is only R60 which will enable PSFA to provide 20 children with two nutritious meals for a day. The event is limited to 13 000 participants and 100% of the entry fee will go towards school feeding. Every person who enters will receive a medal and an ice cold Coca-Cola. Their will be t-shirts for sale for walkers including children – numbers are limited. This year the colour of the t-shirts will be navy blue and will cost R100.

With the support and participation of the public, PSFA looks forward to accomplishing so much more. From the funds raised by entry fees alone, PSFA anticipates feeding 1 733 hungry school children for a calendar year. The 2019 walk is guaranteed to be as entertaining and exciting as previous years with live music, food stalls and prizes.

The Peninsula School Feeding Association (PSFA) was established in 1958 when the government at the time discontinued the national school feeding programme.

Aware of the need for school feeding, the Rotary Club of Paarden Eiland (now the Rotary Club of Table Bay) called a public meeting, and the organisation was established on March 10, 1958.

PSFA is a registered non-profit organisation that addresses hunger in young learners and students attending Primary, Secondary and special needs schools as well as Orphaned & Vulnerable Children Centres (OVCs), Early Childhood Development Centres (ECDs) and Technical and Vocational Education and Training Colleges (TVETS) in the Western Province.

PSFA’s main aims are to reduce short term hunger, enhance children’s ability to learn through school feeding and increase school attendance.

PSFA has to date provided over 1,7 billion nutritious meals to hungry school children across the Western Province.

PSFA is governed by a voluntary management committee that oversees the strategic and policy framework of the organisation, whilst day to day operations are managed by a full time staff complement.

Through good governance over the years, PSFA has built and maintained an investment reserve that generates interest enough to cover all operating expenses.

This means that 100% of all donations are directed exclusively to the actual cost of school feeding.

PSFA has a Section 18A status, which makes all donations tax deductible.
Our NPO Registration Number is: 002-878.
